On January 2, 2021, NowYouth held an online Financial Literacy Workshop focused on educating youth about investing, spending, and saving through presentations by various financial literacy experts. The first speaker was Anmol, a knowledgeable maths and economics student from the University of Liverpool, who presented on the importance of financial management and investing for youth, including the mechanisms of trading/investing compounding, and the math behind it. Tony, a two year finance worker with trading experience, was also a presenter. He is mostly involved in adjudication and analysis for the Commercial business Banking segment and TD Bank Group. Michael, who presented alongside Tony, currently works as a data scientist at Lyft, but has work/internship experience in finance, private equity fields, and private wealth management. The final presenter was Aditya, who has amassed over 800 000 followers on Tik Tok and is also the presentation of Generation.MN which is a non-profit that provides young entrepreneurs a space to build ideas and inspire the next generation of innovators. The workshop was well-attended with over 80 participants from across the world. The speakers took turns presenting on topics in their varying fields of expertise, and surveys of the participants revealed that they felt much more comfortable with managing their finances after the event’s conclusion. Overall, it was a very successful workshop, and NowYouth looks forward to holding many more in the future!
